This appendix describes common problems you may encounter and possible solutions to them.
A.1 | V e rif y you a re c on n e c te d to the W ire l e s s Ca b l e M od e m
If you are unable to access the G ateway' s web-based administration pages, then you may not
be properly connected or configured. The screen shots in this section were taken on a W indows
2000 machine, but the same steps will apply to W indows 95 / 98 / Me/ X P .
To determine your TCP / IP configuration status, please follow the steps below:
1. Click [ Start] then choose [ R un]
2. Type " cmd" or " command" (without the q uotes) to open a DO S prompt.
3. In the DO S window, type " ipconfig" and verify the information that is displayed.
4. If you computer is setup for DH CP , then your TCP / IP configuration should be similar to
the information displayed:
IP Address: 10.1.10.X (x is number between 100 and 199; Note: depending on your
cable operator, the default IP address of the gateway may be 192.16 8 .0.1)
Subnet: 25 5 .25 5 .25 5 .0
G ateway: 10.1.10.1
If you have an IP address that starts with 16 9.25 4.X X X .X X X then see section A.2.
If you have another IP address configured, see section A.3.

If you are getting this IP Address, then you need to check that you are properly connected to
the E Z Connect™ W ireless Cable Modem G ateway.
Confirm that you have a link light on the G ateway' s port to which this computer is connected.
If not, please try another E thernet cable.
If you have a link light, please open up a DO S window as described in section A.1 and type
" ipconfig / renew" (without the q uotes)
