E. Compare the receiver settings listed in the 'RC,' 'RC P,' 'RN,' 'RN P,' 'RT,' 'RA' reports
versus the receiver's configuration sheet.
F. Have available a spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope to troubleshoot either the transmit or
receive end of the system. To monitor RF signals input to the receiver, it may be necessary to
connect a DC power-pass/power-splitter between the LNB, receiver, and spectrum analyzer
as follows: the input port towards the LNB, the DC-connected output port to the receiver,
and the DC-isolated output port towards the analyzer.

1. Checklist for Transmit System

a. Check that all equipment is powered on.
b. Check connection (if applicable) from customer computer serial port to ID96 tagger shelf
which carries auxiliary or network control data. See figure 2-1 and 2-6 in the DT96
manual. Note that hardware handshake line, "CTS," is used in this interface.
c. Check DIP switch (S8) settings on the 2681-01 identifier module in the ID96 shelf,
against table 3-1 in the 2681-01 manual. It is very important that the troubleshooter not
skip checking the settings of these DIP switches. Typical default positions for switches 1
to 6 are ON-ON-OFF-OFF-OFF-OFF, respectively (for 9600 baud, no parity on input or
output). Switches 7 and 8 should be set depending on whether the auxiliary data channel
is being used, and if so, how. If there is no auxiliary data, use the "Tag Only" (ON-ON
respectively) mode. If there is Wegener Communications ANCS in use, then use "Tag-
Overwrite" (ON-OFF) mode. If unformatted customer auxiliary data is being passed, the
card should be set in "Tag Insert" (OFF-ON) mode.
d. Check setting of front rotary switches on the 2681-01 module. These should read
identical to the "desired" downlink frequency setting on all DR95-1X/DR96-1X/96
receivers in use on this channel.
e. Check LED status on the 2681-01 module in the ID96 shelf. It should be green. If it is
red, pull the data input connector at J3 (or J9). If the LED turns green, there is an
interface incompatability.
f. Check connection from ID96 to RS232 port on the DE96 MPEG Audio Encoder. See
figure 2-1 and 2-5 in the DT96 manual.
g. Check customer's audio connection to the MPEG audio encoder. The audio connected to
the encoder Left channel is defined as channel 1 (right is channel 2) in the
DR95-1X/DR96-1X receiver.
h. Check that data and clock are routed correctly between the DM96 modulator shelf and
the audio encoder. See figure 2-1 and 2-4 in DT96 manual.
i. Refer to installation section in the DT96 manual concerning the MPEG Audio Encoder.
Check that the front panel alarm LED's are out, and PLL lock LED's are lit. Check that
the front panel, rear and internal DIP switches (where applicable) are correctly set.
j. Check LED indicators on the 2664-XX modulator card in DM96 shelf. No red alarm or
yellow warning LED's lit. Green "Data Activity" LED, DS2 on the daughter PWB,
should be lit.
