3.2.3
Auxiliary Data
The MPEG-compressed data channel may contain an auxiliary channel of independent data.
Wegener uses this side channel to send either its network-control commands, or any "E-mail"
data to be routed to an attached printer. This data arrives in scrambled packets with a customer-
specific header. The packet must be successfully descrambled and meet certain quality guidelines
before being accepted. Problems with received packets or illegal headers are logged by the
receiver. A summary of these problems and relevant receiver defaults is available using RN
report-request commands (see appendix B).
3.2.4
Temporary Frequency Inserts
A temporary frequency "insert" is a sequence whereby the receiver tunes from the permanent
carrier temporarily over to another carrier and then returns after a pre-set time-out. (See the
TEMP command in appendix B.) The temporary frequency inserts may feature unique audio
effects. The audio may be faded out on the permanent carrier before re-tuning, and then faded in
after the return. The audio may be boosted in level while receiving the temporary carrier. After
issuance of the TEMP command, the tracking of the elapsed time of the insert and the return to
the original carrier is an automatic function requiring no further operator intervention.
3.3
INDICATORS
The front panel LED indicators are STATUS, SEEK, AGC, MARGIN, and SERVICE 1 and 2
(MUTE). These indicators will show the general state of the receiver and flag problems to a local
operator.
3.3.1
Status
The bicolor STATUS LED basically warns of major alarm conditions (see paragraph 3.2.2).
After power-up, if this LED remains lit red continuously while all others are out, there is a
critical fault in the internal receiver firmware or its non-volatile memory (and you are advised to
contact Wegener Customer Service at (770) 814-4057). Otherwise, it indicates red whenever the
receiver is unable to deliver audio, either because an authorized carrier cannot be found or there
is an impairment in the signal or the data being carried. A green indication indicates that the
receiver should be able to deliver good audio (if authorized to do so).
3.3.2
Seek
The yellow SEEK LED illuminates when the receiver is searching for a carrier. It should blink
OFF then ON again every time a search pattern begins. Look for a blink every couple of seconds
for FADE mode search, and once every 30 to 50 seconds for any INSTALLATION type search
(of course, receiver may be actually be in CARRIER TABLE SEARCH or HEADER TABLE
SEARCH mode).
3.3.3
AGC
The red AGC LED indicates when the input signal level is out of the specified –45 to –85 dBm
range. When the LED is lit continuously, the signal level is too low, and when it is slowly
flashing, the signal is too strong. While the receiver is searching for a signal, this indication may
vary as the receiver tuned frequency is varied.
