3 General Principles FLUXUS ADM 8027, F801, ADM 8127B General Principles For the ultrasonic measurement of the flow rate, the flow velocity of the fluid in a pipe is determined. Further physical quantities (e.g., volumetric flow rate, mass flow rate) are derived from the flow velocity and from additional physical quan- tities, if necessary.
  • Page 12 FLUXUS ADM 8027, F801, ADM 8127B 3 General Principles Sound speed c Speed of the propagating sound. The sound speed depends on the mechanical properties of the fluid or the pipe material. In pipe materials and other solid materials, a distinction is made between the longitudinal and transversal sound speed.

  • Page 14 FLUXUS ADM 8027, F801, ADM 8127B 3 General Principles 3.2.3 Measurement of the Flow Velocity in the NoiseTrek Mode When fluids with a high proportion of gas bubbles or solid particles are measured, the attenuation of the ultrasonic signal increases and can inhibit the propagation of the signal in the fluid. A measurement in the TransitTime mode is not possible anymore.
