Components Daktronics DDMS systems provide versatility, allowing for many configuration options. Each DDMS set consists of DDMS cabinet(s) and one or more LED panels. Components within a set are interdependent. All components, except the modules inside the LED panel(s), are located within the DDMS cabinet(s). Figure 2 shows component placement within a power and control enclosure.
DC terminal assemblies, as connections to the LED panel(s) route from power enclosures. DDMS Controller The Daktronics DDMS controller is the hub for DDMS management. It is responsible for handling communications, interpreting sensors, performing diagnostics, and playing messages on the LED panel’s modules.
Fiber-to-Wire Enclosure The fiber-to-wire enclosure is used with the fiber option. The enclosure contains the product board which converts fiber cable to copper wire, as required by the LED panel(s). LED Panel The LED panel contains groups of modules. The pixels display messages on the sign.
Surge Suppressor The parallel surge suppressor protects the LED panel(s) from voltage spikes on the utility power input at the DDMS cabinet. Vanguard Auxiliary Control Panel (ACP) ® The Vanguard auxiliary control panel (ACP) is an interface to the DDMS controller. ®...
Traffic Cabinet Mounting Ground Mounting Secure the traffic cabinet to a concrete pad using anchor bolts. Daktronics recommends using " stainless steel anchor bolts. When anchoring the traffic cabinet to the concrete pad, make sure the bottom of the cabinet allows for water drainage. Do not seal the cabinet to the concrete pad as this prevents water from draining properly.
AC Power Conduit The contractor may choose which type of conduit material to use. DC Power Conduit Contact Daktronics for information on which size conduit is needed. Signal Conduit The contractor may choose which type of conduit material to use.
Daktronics engineering staff must approve any changes made to the display. Before altering the display, submit detailed drawings for the proposed modifications to the Daktronics engineering staff for evaluation and approval, or the warranty will be void. All DDMS cabinets must be grounded according to all local and national electrical codes.
To make AC power connections at a traffic cabinet: 1. Remove the panelboard cover to reveal the panelboard blocks. 2. Route the power cables through the conduit hub and into the panelboard. 3. Terminate each wire at the appropriate terminal block section and earth ground lug. Refer to Interconnections at DC Terminal Assembly for connections routing from the DC terminal assembly to the LED panels.
Control Equipment Configuration DDMS Controller Connections DDMS Controller Communications (J4—J7, J11, and J12) The DDMS controller is capable of interfacing to the central controller via RS232, modem, Ethernet, and fiber. The controller is capable of simultaneous communications on any of these ports. These ports are described below. Communications equipment interconnections and configuration must be correct before the central control computer can communicate with the DDMS controller and other remote equipment.
Installation and Setup 1. Navigate to: http://dakfiles.daktronics.com/downloads/vanguard/Firmware/Applications/ LCDSimulator.zip 2. Contact Daktronics Transportation Technical Support at 1-800-833-3157 for the installation password. 3. Once the LCD Simulator is installed: a. Connect the computer to the DDMS controller using an Ethernet cable. b. Open the LCD Simulator.
c. Click the drop-down menu in lower-right corner, select TCP/IP, and click Open. d. Enter the controller’s IP address in the free-text box then click Connect to interface with the controller. DDMS controller default IP address: 172.16.192.25 Note: The computer connected to the controller will need to be on the same subnet.
