5.7 Unloading the Transporter

Unloading the transporter from an ambulance with a patient on it
requires a minimum of two trained operators who are communicating,
working together, and maintaining control of the transporter at all
times. Use additional trained helpers as needed. See "Using Additional
Help" on page 7.
Both Operators: Disconnect the incubator from any vehicle-
1.
mounted equipment or instrumentation.
Both Operators: Raise the ambulance folding bumper, if present,
2.
and release the transporter from the fastening system.
Control-end Operator (A): Grasp the transporter main frame or
3.
lower lift frame and squeeze the undercarriage control handle.
4.
Both Operators: Keeping the transporter parallel with the
ambulance side walls, pull the transporter slowly from the
ambulance (Figure 16) and guide it toward the safety hook so the
safety hook will catch the center of the safety bar.
5.
Assisting Operator (B): As the transporter is pulled from the
ambulance, grasp the undercarriage hand grip on the lower
frame and lower the undercarriage to the ground.
If the undercarriage does not unfold, lift the undercarriage slightly
to take the weight off the locking mechanism.
6.
Control Operator (A): Release the control handle.
Both Operators: Lift the transporter until all four transport
7.
wheels are off the ground to verify the undercarriage has unfolded
completely and is locked. Set the transporter on the ground.
Assisting Operator (B): Use the fastening system release lever
8.
(C)to disengage the transporter from the fastening system
(Figure 17).
9.
Both Operators: Roll the transporter completely out of the
ambulance. As the transporter is rolled away from the safety hook
or safety stop, the Assisting Operator lets go of the fastening
system release lever.
10. Both Operators: Lower the transporter to a rolling position. See
"General Specifications" on page 8.

NOTICE
Disconnect the incubator from any vehicle-mounted
equipment before unloading the transporter from the vehicle.
If the ambulance is parked on an uneven surface, the
operators (and any helpers) may need to lift the transporter
higher than normal to allow the undercarriage to lock.
Verify that the undercarriage is locked before operating the
fastening system release lever or release handle. An unlocked
undercarriage will allow the transporter to fold.
