5.4 Changing Positions
Changing positions with a patient on the transporter requires a
minimum of two trained operators who are communicating, working
together, and maintaining control of the transporter at all times.
Before raising or lowering the transporter, both operators do the
following:
Stand at opposite ends (Figure 11) or sides (Figure 12) of the
●
transporter. Select the lifting position that provides the best
ergonomic position to lift or lower the transporter.
●
Use an underhand grip to grasp the transporter frame.
Control Operator (A): Position your hand to use a control handle.
●
Assisting Operator (B): Position yourself at the opposite end or
●
side of the transporter.
RAISING OR LOWERING
1.
Both Operators: Lift the transporter slightly to take the weight
off the locking mechanism.
2.
Both Operators: As the control operator (A) squeezes and holds
the control handle, both operators raise or lower the transporter.
If the control handle is difficult to squeeze, both operators lift the
transporter a little higher to free the locking mechanism.
Control Operator (A): Release the control handle when the
3.
transporter is near the desired height.
Both Operators: Together, lift the transporter until all four
4.
transport wheels are off the ground. This ensures the undercarriage
lock engages if it has not already done so.
5.
Both Operators: Set the transporter onto the floor or ground.
Do not release your grasp until your are sure the undercarriage is
locked at the new position.
