Handlebar

1. Loosen the handlebar locking knobs.
2. Swing the handlebar forward. Prevent the cables from getting
pinched or kinked.
When unfolding the handlebar, engage the blade control lever and
then move the handlebar into the operating position. Tighten the
locking knobs to secure the handlebar in the mowing position.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Engine Will Not Start
Possible Cause
Blade control not engaged
Fuel valve OFF
Out of fuel
Bad fuel; mower stored without
treating gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline
Spark plug faulty, fouled, or
improperly gapped
Spark plug wet with fuel (flooded
engine)
Fuel filter clogged, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.

Correction
Hold blade control lever
against the handlebar

Turn the fuel valve ON

3).
Refuel

5).
Refuel with fresh gasoline
(page
5).
Gap or replace the spark plug
(page
12).
Dry and reinstall the spark
plug.
Take the mower to an
authorized Honda servicing
dealer for repair.
Loss of Power
Possible Cause
Grass is too tall
Grass is too wet
Mower deck is clogged
Air filter is clogged
Bad fuel; mower stored without
treating gasoline, or refueled with
bad gasoline
Fuel filter clogged, carburetor
malfunction, ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.

Vibration

Possible Cause
Grass and debris lodged under the
mower deck
Blade is loose
Blade is bent, damaged, or
unbalanced by improper
sharpening
Mechanical damage, such as a
bent crankshaft
Mowing Problems
Possible Cause
Mower is moving too fast for lawn
conditions
Cutting height adjustment levers
set at different positions
Mower deck is clogged
Grass is too wet
Grass is too tall
Blade is dull, worn, or damaged
Wrong blade installed
Correction
Raise the cutting height

4), cut a narrower
swath, cut at a slower ground
speed, or cut more frequently.
Allow the grass to dry
Clean out the mower deck
(page
13).
Clean or replace the air filter
(page
11).
Refuel with fresh gasoline
(page
5).
Take the mower to an
authorized Honda servicing
dealer for repair.
Correction
Clean out the mower deck

Tighten loose blade bolts

dealer for repair.
Correction
Release the clutch lever and
push the mower slower.
Set all levers at the same
cutting height position

• Raise the cutting height
• Cut a narrower swath
• Use a slower ground speed
• Cut more frequently
• Use the side-discharge
chute instead of mulching
Sharpen or replace the blade
