This service bulletin provides parts and instructions to complete the installation of the FIKI system on
airplanes with provisions.

Recommended: Should be accomplished within the next 100 hours of operation or 12-month
(annual-type) inspection, whichever occurs first.

  • Page 5 SERVICE BULLETIN Caravan CAB-30-02 WARNING: For health and environmental data, review the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for TKS fluid. Refer to the MSDS that should be included with the shipment of TKS fluid. If you cannot locate the MSDS, contact your supplier of the TKS fluid to obtain the MSDS. WARNING: Make sure that you use applicable eye protection when you work near the ice protection system.
  • Page 6 SERVICE BULLETIN Caravan CAB-30-02 • Ethyl alcohol. Always use P840218 Tape or equivalent low-residue masking material to protect the porous panels from unapproved materials. (Refer to Figure 2.) Use these instructions to make tubing to connect to the test cart: Use only the specified nylon tubing, coupling bodies, olives, rubber sealing rings, and nuts in accordance with these instructions to make compression fitting connections.

Install the lower left cowling panel, right upper engine cowling, and right nose cap.

(19) Apply pressure of 10 psi, do a check for leaks in the line, and repair all leaks. (20) Apply pressure of 20 psi to slowly start the fluid flow through the left mid wing panel.
  • Page 12 SERVICE BULLETIN Caravan CAB-30-02 (42) Continue the fluid purge until the panel is correctly purged in accordance with Figure 3 and Table 2. NOTE: To get an even flow over the panel it may be necessary to lightly run a dry cloth or paper towel over the leading edge and/or the dry spots of the panel during purging.

(63) Slowly disconnect the test cart fluid supply tube from the inboard panel. (64) Install new sealing rings (two S2800-942 Sealing Rings) and connect the two right inboard wing panel supply lines to ports 1 and 5 on the wing proportioning unit.
  • Page 14 SERVICE BULLETIN Caravan CAB-30-02 (86) Connect the purge tank line to the section of the wing strut TKS panel that supplies fluid by the line that was attached to port 6. NOTE: The strut panel has two membranes (upper and lower). Each membrane has a fluid supply tube.
  • Page 15 SERVICE BULLETIN Caravan CAB-30-02 (107)Wait until the fluid starts to come out all the holes at the same rate along the full length of the panel and increase the pressure to 65 psi. (108)Continue the fluid purge until the panel is correctly purged in accordance with Figure 3 and Table 2.

(16) Measure the quantity of fluid that you collected from the right wing side of the airplane (right inboard wing panel, right mid wing panel, right outboard wing panel, and right wing strut panel).
  • Page 18 SERVICE BULLETIN Caravan CAB-30-02 WARNING: Do not run the TKS ice protection system in dry, cold air. The ice protection fluid is designed to mix with water that impinges on the surface of the airplane during normal operation. If you run the system during dry, cold air conditions, the fluid becomes a gel that takes much time to clear, particularly from the windshield.
