The main functions of the communications CPU module are as follows:
Communicate internally with the protection CPU module.
Communicate locally with a PC by the front communications port.
Communicate remotely by the rear communication ports.
Handle the Man-machine interface, i.e. the keypad and display.
The DFF design takes maximum care in assuring reliability against electromagnetic disturbances.
Each input has a resistive attenuator which reduces the external voltage battery levels (48 V, 125 V, ...) to match the
levels of the optocoupler. The optocoupler gives galvanic isolation to each input and greatly enhances the
performance against electromagnetic perturbations.
Each module has 12 heavy-duty relays with duties as listed in section 5.2. The alarm relay has one normally closed
contact. All of the relays have one normally open contact each. The contacts are potential free.
The power supply module includes the following:
DC-DC converter that converts the external battery power supply voltage to the electronic circuitry
voltage (8Vdc and 24Vdc).
Four tripping relays, with contact duties as defined in section 5.2.
One equipment alarm relay.
One passive filter to suppress electromagnetic disturbances.
One current limiter to protect the power supply against unintentional grounding.
