Chapter 4: Configuring the 5500 Express IP Control Unit
Tips for Navigating and Setting Your Browser
IBM recommends that you navigate the configuration program by following
the links and buttons provided. Please set up your browser so that pages
reload each time you access them. Also, please set up a disk and/or a memory
cache on the browser. The following procedures are offered as a guide:
Netscape 3:
Select: Options, then Network Preferences then Cache and choose
Every Time option. Enter 1024 (or Higher) in the memory cache box
and 500 (or higher) in the Disk cache box.
Netscape 4:
Select Edit, Preferences, Advanced, then Cache and choose the
Every Visit option. Enter 1024 (or higher) in the memory cache and
7680 (or higher) in the Disk Cache box.
Internet Explorer 4:
Select View, Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files then
Settings. Choose the Every Visit to the page option.
Select View, Internet Options, then Settings. Use the slider to set the
amount of disk space to use for your cache.
From a twinax-attached client workstation
ConfigurationPlus Program as follows:
Step 1: Open a browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) and enter one of the
5500 control unit's IP addresses in the Location box. For initial
configurations, this IP address is 10.1.1.1.
Note: 10.1.1.1 is the factory default IP Address for the 5500 Control Unit.
Step 2: The ConfigurationPlus welcome screen appears (D00). To proceed,
click the Enter button.
Step 3: From the Main Menu (M00), select Configure.
Step 4: From the Configuration Menu (C11), select Open.
Step 5: Click OK to continue (C10)
Step 6: From the Configuration Options window (C00), select Hardware
Configuration Editor.
Step 7: The following options (H00) are available: IBM 5500 Controller
ID, Twinax Network, LAN and WAN.
1. Use this type of workstation for the initial configuration. After the initial
configuration, you can access the 5500 Control Unit from any workstation on
the network
