The following sections describe how to resolve communication problems
with the 5500 Control Unit's Token Ring and Ethernet Adapters.
Occasionally, the 5500 Control Unit is unable to communicate on the network
while other stations on the network can communicate. Follow these steps:
1. Check to be sure your adapter is enabled. See "Configuring the LAN" on
page 62. If other stations on the network are having problems
communicating, contact your network administrator
2. Verify that the setting for the adapter's ring speed option matches the ring
speed of the network, or that the ring speed has been set to Auto. The ring
speed must be established by another device before Auto will work.
3.
If necessary, replace the adapter cable.
Diagnosis
Check Ethernet cables, connectors, and hubs. For
adapter and hub problems, refer to the respective
hardware manual. Reboot your unit. If this
problem persists, the Ethernet LAN configuration
is incorrect. From a client browser, open the
ConfigurationPlus program and correct the
Ethernet LAN network configuration. Also, refer
to "Solving a Communication Problem with the
Ethernet Adapter" on page 77.
Check the token ring cables. If the IBM 5500 IP
Control unit is the first device attached to a MAU
(media access unit), then reconfigure the token
ring adapter for the speed at which you will
operate your Token Ring LAN (16 Mbps or 4
Mbps.) Also, refer to "Solving a Communication
Problem with the Token Ring Adapter" on page
73.
The controller name is in conflict on your LAN.
From a client browser, open the
ConfigurationPlus program and correct the
controller's name on window H10.
Internal error. Unplug and replug the power cord.
If problem persists, call the service representative
to repair the 5500 Control Unit.
