8 - CLUTCH

Lubrication: every 500 km, a few drops of fluid oil on the stop
Adjustment: '' If the clutch slips and drives the car poorly, its lining is worn and must be replaced in the
workshop.
This drawback can be remedied at the start by increasing the pressure of the clutch springs.
This extremely delicate operation consists of loosening the six locknuts appearing on the plate carrying the
large ring gear.
.
Once these locknuts have been loosened, the six corresponding nuts will be lightly tightened and the locknuts
will be re-locked.

"How many visible threads should be left?" Unfortunately, there is no period documentation on the subject.
... It seems that 3 visible threads are sufficient as in the photo... because ...... when the springs are new, their
length is 52 mm,... also new clutch disc linings are 3.5 to 4 mm thick...
... But when the springs are old and tired, their length can reduce up to 48 mm... .. the thickness of the linings
of the clutch disc also decreases ...... you can then tighten up to about 4 more turns to compensate and prevent
the disc from slipping; as in the drawing showing 7 visible threads.
'' The adjuster is very sensitive, turn only one turn at a time, and be careful to make exactly the same
tightening on each of the six nuts. Never tighten the nuts completely, which would make disengagement
impossible. ''

The discs must be 3.5mm thick. Maxi 4mm, if more, you cannot adjust.
A little advice, attach your keys ...
Slip a rag under the nut you are removing: if it escapes, it will not fall to the bottom of the bell.
But if the clutch springs are too weak, this operation will not be enough to correct the slipping and it will be
necessary to put new springs.
Clutch release bearing Do not forget to leave a play of 2 to 3 mm between the clutch lever (at the gearbox
outlet) and the pedal.
Important: to avoid depressing the pedal, you must have a stopper (a flat iron bent at 90 ° with a fixed light on
the tank support) This will prevent you from unscrewing the nut located on the box and breaking the clip.

... Attention: on this photo RTA p 122 of a dismantled clutch, the finger (no3) is mounted upside down, ie inside
the steering wheel on the gearbox side "an unspeakable error which must have already caused some funny
things. surprises, the clutch then working backwards !!! (Gégé de Bruxelles)
