CRANKSHAFT/PISTON
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
Remove the lower crankcase (page 11-2).
PISTON RING
INSTALLATION:
· Install the top ring and second ring with the "N" mark facing up.
·
Do not interchange the top ring and the second ring.
After assembly, check for smooth movement of the piston ring.
·
·
Stagger the piston ring end gaps 120° apart. Do not align
with the piston pin.
·
Space the side rail end gaps at least 10 mm (0.4 in) apart.
Coat the oil ring with oil after assembly.

PISTON PIN CLIP [2]
ASSEMBLY:
·
Reusing the piston pin clip may damage the
engine. Always install new piston pin clips.
·
Install by setting one end of the clip in the
piston groove, holding the other end with
long-nosed pliers, and rotating the clip in.
·
Do not align the end gap of the clip with the
cutout in the piston pin bore.

INSPECTION:
Check that the belt is not worn or
cracked. Do not bend or twist the belt.

INSTALLATION:
Install with the "
piston head facing the
carburetor side.
