Before riding the motorcycle, be
sure to check the following items.
Never underestimate the impor-
tance of these checks. Perform all
of them before riding the machine.
 WARNING
Checking maintenance items
when the engine is running can
be hazardous. You could be
severely injured if your hands
or clothing get caught in mov-
ing engine parts.
Shut the engine off when per-
forming maintenance checks,
except when checking the
lights, engine stop switch, and
throttle.

NOTE: The transmission cannot
shift when the motorcycle is
placed on the center stand. Ride
and move the motorcycle to
inspect shift operation.

CHECK FOR:
• Smoothness
• No restriction of movement
• No play or looseness
• Proper lever operation
• Fluid level in the reservoir
to be above "LOWER" line
• No fluid leakage
• Brake pads not worn down
to the limit line
• Correct lever play
• No "sponginess"
• No dragging
• Brake lock operation
• Proper pressure
• Adequate tread depth
• No cracks or cuts
Enough fuel for the planned
distance of operation
Operation of all lights and
indicators
Correct function
Correct level
• Correct play in the throttle
cable
• Smooth operation and
positive return of the
throttle grip to the closed
position
Proper operation
Good visibility
