Muting Function

The muting function makes it possible to inactivate one or both
light curtains in order to allow the object's passage without stop-
ping the machine. The F3SP has muting sensor inputs for the
activation of this function. The muting sensors A and B control
light curtain 1; muting sensors C and D control light curtain 2.
For the muting sensor, PNP transistor output type or N.O. contact
output type is applicable (photoelectric sensor, proximity sensor,
etc.).
It is necessary to position and connect the muting sensors in
order to avoid undesired muting inputs.
It is important to remember that the muting function forces the
system to work, and for this reason it must be used with care.

Override Function

This function makes it possible to force a muting condition, if nec-
essary, starting the machine despite one or both safety light cur-
tains having been interrupted by the object. This enables the
removal of the material from the protected area when it has been
stuck in the beam of the safety light curtains due to a failure. For
example, suppose that a pallet has stopped before the light cur-
tains; the conveyor belt cannot be started again because the
F3SP, after having detected one or more interrupted light cur-
tains, will not close the output contacts, thus making it impossible
to free the controlled area. By starting the override function, it will
be possible to carry out this operation. It is important to remem-
ber that the override function, like the muting function, forces the
system to work, and for this reason it must be used with care.
Installation Criteria
1. Each muting sensor must recognize the material (namely
pallets, vehicles, etc.) over its full length.
2. The sensors must be arranged in such a way that the
material is recognized even when it is on a pallet or other
transporting medium.
3. In case of different transport speeds through the muting
area, consideration must be given to the muting duration.
4. All the light curtains and the muting sensors must be
arranged so that the previous material has already
passed the last muting sensor before the new material
has reached the first muting sensor.
Muting Sequence
1. The muting function will be activated by the following
sequence:
Muting sensor A or C turns ON.
Within 30 ms to 3 seconds after that, muting sensor B or
D turns ON.
2. The muting function will be deactivated by either of these
methods:
One or both muting sensor(s) turns OFF.
Or, 60 seconds passes. (This restriction can be deacti-
vated by DIP switch configuration).
3. The muting function will not become activated if the light
curtain is interrupted and the output contacts are in the
opened state.
4. A wrong sequence on muting sensors activation will
cause a lockout condition of the F3SP.
