Appendix A
Upgrading to 256 KB Cache
Parts
You need 64 KB x 4 static RAM chips with an access time of 17 ns.
The part number is Toshiba® TC5546P-17 or an equivalent part. There
are 8 pieces in this part. This part is available from AMI.
Procedure
Step
1
Move jumpers J21 and J22 towards the 256K side. The positions
for J21 should be (1, 2 shorted).
The positions for J22 should be (1, 2 shorted).

Place a jumper across J36 to implement 256K cache. The positions
should be J36 (1, 2 shorted).

Remove the static RAM from U33. This RAM is not required for
256 KB cache operation.

Remove the 22-pin 16 KB x 4 static RAM chips from U38, U39,
U41, U42, U45, U46, U48, and U49.

Place the 24-pin 64 KB x 4 static RAM chips in U38, U39, U41,
U42, U45, U46, U48, and U49. Make sure that the pins are straight
and that all pins are inserted in the receptacles.

Turn the system on. The Boot Screen should display 256 KB of
cache memory. If 256 KB does not display, check for bent pins on
the new SRAM chips.
