    If you need to sign up for service, we recommend that you bring the IMEI number of your Zoom 3G+ modem with you. To find the IMEI number, you need to remove the modem’s cap and cover as detailed in step 2 below. The IMEI number is on the back side of the cover.
  • Page 5: Step 2: Slide The Service Provider's Sim Card Into Your Modem

    Slide the cap off the modem. Position the modem so the silver-colored USB • connector is toward your left and the Zoom logo is facing away from you. To the right of the connector is the cover, which you should remove by sliding it to the right about 1/8 inches and then lifting it.
  • Page 6 Mac OS X 10.4.9 and higher Plug the modem into an available USB port on your computer. A Zoom 3G+ Modem folder with a disk icon appears on the desktop. Open the Zoom 3G+ Modem folder, and then double-click the MAC folder.

    The 3G+ Modem’s Home Page If you followed the instructions in the Quick Start (this document’s chapter 1), you should have installed the 3G+ Modem’s software onto your computer and learned how to start up that software. Here we assume you’ve done that, so you should be looking at the home page of the software that’s shown below.

    The Data Stats Symbol on the Home Page Data Stats displays statistics about your modem. When you select Data Stats, the following screen appears: You can see that this screen lets you monitor upload and download speeds, track the amount of data you’ve transmitted during this Internet session, and keep track of how much data you’ve uploaded and downloaded over various times.

    The Text Symbol Text is used to send and receive text messages. When you select Text, the following screen appears: Most of the functions should be self-explanatory if you are familiar with sending text (SMS) messages. We encourage you to try sending a text message to someone, and then asking that person to send you a text message.

    The Phone Book Symbol on the Home Page If you click on the Phone Book Symbol, you will bring up the modem’s phone book page: As you can see, you can keep phone books for your PC, (U) SIM, and data card contacts. Storing your contacts on your PC will provide you the most storage room.

    The Voice Symbol on the Home Page Clicking on the Voice symbol brings up a screen that lets you make and receive voice calls if your modem has a SIM and associated service that permit voice calls, and if your computer has hardware that supports voice calls.

  • Page 16 Normally the SIM has all the profile information you need. If you want to create a profile for a service provider connection, use the profile screen. If you don’t know some of the service provider information such as the APN and access number, you should look at the materials that came with your SIM or ask your service provider.
  • Page 17 Here’s the screen you get when you click on Security from the Settings menu: To prevent unauthorized access of your modem, you may enable security. When security is enabled, you will be asked to enter a pin. You have three chances to enter the pin correctly. If you enter the wrong pin three times in a row, you will need to enter what is called a puk code.
  • Page 18 Here’s the screen you get when you click on Network from the Settings menu: Most people should pick 3G Preferred as their network preference. 2G is much slower. Most users should only change the Authorization Type if instructed by their service provider.
  • Page 19 Here’s the screen you get when you click on SMS from the settings: This page controls how your SMS messages are handled. SMS Center Number is a phone number that acts like a gateway for transferring SMS messages. SMS Validity is the amount of time your service provider should keep trying to resend your SMS message if your service provider has not been successful in sending it.
  • Page 20 Here’s the screen you get when you click on Alert from the Settings menu: You can set the different sounds your computer makes when you receive a SMS message, establish a network connection, or receive a voice call. If you do not want your computer to alert you with a sound, click on the mute box.

Mac users will only have the option to launch the application when the Mac OS starts up and to terminate the application when the Mac OS goes to sleep.

You may always have the calls forwarded or you may choose to only forward certain calls. To forward calls, select when you want the calls forwarded (either All, When Busy, When No Answer, When not Available) and enter the number to forward the calls to.

    The USSD Symbol on the Home Page Your modem and its software support USSD codes. These are typically used to request information from your service provider in a fast, easy way. When you click the USSD symbol on the Home Page, you get this screen: You can see that you can enter a USSD number and send it to your service provider to get information from that service provider.

    The Browser Symbol on the Home Page When you click on the Browser button you get this screen: This screen automatically appears after you connect to your mobile broadband service provider. You can click on the Web icon in the center of the screen to launch your default browser, or you can choose instead to launch your default browser or another browser as you normally would.
