Verifying Utility Version
The PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Adapter requires Version 1.0.3 (or later) of the iprconfig utility for
2.4 based kernels and version 2.x.x for 2.6 based kernels. To verify the version number of the iprconfig
utility, do the following:
1. If necessary, log in as root user.
2. Type:
iprconfig --version
Press Enter.
The following are two examples of the data that displays on your screen:
iprconfig: Ver. 1 Rev. 0.3
iprconfig: 2.0.10 (May 23, 2004)
Note: The version displayed in the example might be different from the output displayed on your screen.
If the version displayed is not at the recommended level and updates are needed, obtain them from your
Linux distributor or download them from the IBM StorageIO Web site. The Web address is:
http://www-124.ibm.com/storageio/ipr/.

Installing the Downloaded Device Driver and Utility Software

Software required for the PCI-X Dual Channel Ultra320 SCSI Adapter is usually installed when the Linux
operating system is installed. Software installation is not necessary unless verification has failed.
If it is necessary to install software, obtain it from one of the following sources in the order listed:
1. Your supported Linux operating system CD-ROM
2. Your Linux distributor
3. Online at the IBM StorageIO Web site: http://www-124.ibm.com/storageio/ipr/
After downloading the needed software package, install the software by continuing with the instructions in
this section. Then, return to "Verifying Linux Software Installation" on page 16, and follow the procedure to
ensure that the installation was successful.
Installing Device Driver Software
The ipr device driver is available in the base 2.6 kernel as of Version 2.6.7-rc1. Additional driver updates
may be available on the IBM StorageIO Web site as mentioned above. These patches may be
downloaded and installed like any other kernel patch. The ipr device driver is not in the base 2.4 kernel
and must be downloaded from http://www-124.ibm.com/storageio/ipr/ in the form of a kernel patch if not
available as part of your distribution.
If you downloaded the ipr device driver patch, do the following:
1. Turn on the power to your system unit.
2. At the system prompt, log in as root user.
3. Uncompress and apply the patch by typing:
cd /usr/src/linux
wget http://www-124.ibm.com/storageio/ipr/patch-2.4.26-ipr-1.0.5.gz
gunzip patch-2.4.26-ipr-1.0.5.gz
patch -p1 < patch-2.4.26-ipr-1.0.5
4. Compile and install the device driver. If you are compiling a 2.4 kernel, make sure IBM Power RAID
SCSI support is selected. If you are compiling a 2.6 kernel, make sure IBM Power Linux RAID
adapter support is selected.
5. Reboot your system.
