Troubleshooting

Problem
Engine will not crank
Engine cranks but will not start
Engine starts hard and runs
rough
Unit is set to OFF, but engine

Installation Guidelines For Spark-Ignited Stationary Generators
Cause
Blown fuse.
Loose, corroded, or faulty battery cables.
Faulty starter contact.
Faulty starter motor.
Discharged battery.
One (or both) auxiliary shutdown switches is
OFF (O).
No fuel.
Faulty fuel solenoid (FS).
Faulty spark plug(s).
Valve lash out of adjustment.
Air cleaner plugged or damaged.
Faulty spark plug(s).
Incorrect fuel pressure.
Fuel selection in controller is incorrect.
Controller wired incorrectly.
Faulty control board.
MLCB (generator disconnect) is OFF
(OPEN).
Generator internal failure.
MLCB (generator disconnect) is OFF
(OPEN).
Faulty transfer switch coil.
Faulty transfer relay.
Transfer relay circuit open.
Faulty control logic board.
Excessive engine oil.
Faulty engine breather.
Incorrect type or viscosity of oil.
Damaged gasket, seal, or hose.
Troubleshooting/Quick Reference Guide
Correction
Correct short circuit condition by replacing 7.5
amp fuse in generator control panel.
Tighten, clean, or replace as necessary. Con-
tact an IASD for assistance.
Charge or replace battery.
Set both auxiliary shutdown switches to ON (I).
Verify fuel source / turn on fuel shutoff valve.
Contact an IASD for assistance.
Clean, re-gap, or replace plug(s).
Reset valve lash.
Inspect / replace air cleaner.
Clean, inspect gap, replace plug(s) if needed.
Verify fuel pressure to regulator is 3.5–14 in
water column (0.87–3.48 kPa) for NG or 7–14
in water column (1.74–3.48 kPa) for LP gas.
Program controller with correct fuel type.
Contact an IASD for assistance.
Set MLCB (generator disconnect) to ON
(CLOSED).
Contact an IASD for assistance.
Set MLCB (generator disconnect) to ON
(CLOSED).
Contact an IASD for assistance.
Adjust oil to correct level.
Contact an IASD for assistance.

manual.
Inspect for oil leaks.
