3.0 Connecting, starting and operating the Tracheoport ® 3.1 Functioning The Tracheoport ® is a very handy small suction unit. It is driven by an electromotive, maintenance-free oscillating piston pump. 4.0 Cleaning and servicing 4.4.1 General 4.4 Filter There is a bacterial filter (Fig. 4.1) at the lid of the Tra- cheoport® which a) protects the interior of the unit against contaminati- b) stops the flow of liquids due to its hydrophobic features. Together with the mechanical overflow safety this filter prevents sucking in of secretion into the interior of the unit, and, due to this, failure of the unit. - Page 14 4.0 Cleaning and servicing 4.4 Filter (contin.) When inserting a new filter, pay attention to direction of flow (indicated by cone connection). Recommendation: – In private use, the filter should be replaced at least weekly. If the unit shows a reduced performance the filter must be changed earlier! – In hospital use, the filter should be replaced every week! Attention: Please take care that there are always sufficient spare filters available.

7.0 Maintenance and repair The Tracheoport® may only be opened and repaired by per- sons explicitly authorized by Fahl. Technical and hygienic pre-cautionary measures have to be observed. The manufacturer rejects liability for performance of the unit if it has been improperly repaired or if no original spare parts have been used. -

8.0 Disposal At the end of durability, dispose of the components of the Tracheoport®, observing the applicable waste-control regulations. In doing so, make sure that the materials are carefully separated. TheTracheoport® does not comprise any hazardous materials. The material of the housing can be completely recycled.
