Component replacement procedures There are as many as 53 screws that must be removed, replaced, or loosened when servicing the computer.

Remove the three Torx5 M2.0×4.0 screws (1) and the two Torx5 M2.0×2.5 screws (2) that secure the bottom cover to the keyboard/top cover. Use a thin plastic tool (1) to separate the rear edge (2) of the bottom cover from the keyboard/top cover. Remove the bottom cover (3).

Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 27). Remove the battery (see Battery on page 29). Remove the solid-state drive: Detach the shield (1) that secures the solid-state drive to the solid-state drive slot. Remove the Phillips M2.0×3.0 screw (2) that secures the solid-state drive to the keyboard/top cover. Remove the solid-state drive (3).

Each time the heat sink is removed, inspect the thermal material locations on the system board and the heat sink. Thermal paste is used on the processor (1) and the heat sink component that services it (2); the graphics controller (3) and the heat sink component that services it (4); and the system board component (5) and the heat sink component that services it (6).

Release the display panel cable (1) and the power connector cable from the retention clips (2) built into the left fan. Release the retention tape (1) that secures the left fan cable to the system board. Disconnect the left fan cable (2) from the system board. Remove the three Phillips M2.0×4.

Release the display panel cable and the webcam/microphone module cable from the retention clips (6) built into the left fan. Remove the four Phillips M2.5×5.0 screws that secure the display assembly to the keyboard/top cover. Swing the front edge of the keyboard/top cover (1) up and away from the display assembly. Separate the keyboard/top cover (2) from the display assembly. NOTE: The following disassembly procedures do not apply to display assemblies with spare part numbers L97423-001, L97422-001, or L98324-001. These display assemblies are “hinge up” spare part assemblies and should not be disassembled. If it is necessary to replace the display bezel or any of the internal display components, follow these steps: Remove the display assembly.

Remove the display bezel (6). The display bezel is available using spare part number L97412-001. If it is necessary to replace the display panel assembly or any of the internal display components, follow these steps: CAUTION: The display panel assembly is extremely fragile. Using excessive force can damage the assembly.

Secure the suction cups to the display panel assembly by swinging the handles (2) into position. Use the suction cups (1) to partially separate the top corner edges of the display panel assembly from the display back cover. NOTE: Slow, steady pressure is required when working with the pull-to-release tabs in substep d. Pulling too fast can result in the tabs breaking and the release action being incomplete.

Separate the top edge (4) of the display panel assembly from the display back cover. Swing the top edge of the display panel assembly (1) up and forward until it rests upside down in front of the display back cover. Release the display panel cable (2), the webcam cable, and the WLAN antenna cables from the display hinges.

Detach the webcam module (3) from the display panel. (The webcam module is attached to the display panel with double-sided adhesive.) Release the ZIF connector (1) to which the display panel cable is connected, and then disconnect the display panel cable (2) from the webcam module. The webcam module is available using spare part number L97413-001.

If it is necessary to replace the wireless antenna(s), follow these steps: Remove the display assembly. Remove the display bezel. Remove the display panel. Remove the display right hinge. Release the antenna cables (1) from the retention clips built into the display back cover. Detach the antenna transceivers (2) from the display back cover.
