Firmware upload using Drive Loader 2
The firmware upload process is controlled by the Drive Loader 2 tool. Do not stop or
cancel the process while it runs, as doing so can corrupt the memory in the Control unit of
the inverter, and prevent further operation.
To upload the firmware:
1. On the host PC: Start up the Drive Loader 2 tool.
2. Press Open and select firmware package LP_Firmware.lp from the unzipped firmware
package. After reading the firmware package, Drive loader 2 initiates a port scan to
identify the connected inverter. As a result of the scan, the tool indicates a connected
ACS880 inverter (which is actually a PVS980, PVS980-58 or PVS800-57B).
3. Make sure that the firmware versions and details of the scan are correct. The serial
port is dependent on the computer in use. If there are multiple possible ports, verify the
correct port from the Device manager of the computer.
4. Click Download to initiate the firmware update process. Click OK to acknowledge the
warning message about not disturbing the load process. The progress bar indicates
remaining time of the load process.
5. Click OK after the firmware is updated successfully. The Drive Loader 2 reads
information from the inverter. The tool might indicate a warning for the current
firmware versions. Ignore the warning at this point (firmware on the PC and in the
inverter are identical).
6. Close the Drive Loader 2 tool.
After a successful firmware upload
1. Unplug the mini-USB.
2. The Control unit launches to the language options.
3. Select your preferred language.
4. Press OK.
5. After the Control unit has rebooted, check the new firmware details from Main menu >
Systems info > Drive. Scroll down until the FW version is shown. Check that the FW
version is same as in the firmware zip file.

Restoring data from a backup

Restore configuration data and energy production data after SW upload.
On the Control unit:
1. Turn off inverter operations.
2. Access Main menu > Backups.
3. Retrieve a file list from the Backups menu. The list holds a maximum of two files. The
file name contains the time stamp for when the file was created.
4. Select the appropriate backup file and select Restore all. The data restore operation
starts immediately.
5. Wait for the restore process to finish.
6. Start the inverter.
