A station has been preset but it cannot
be received by pressing the P .CALL key.
Demonstration starts suddenly.
General
Symptom
No operation occurs w hen an operation
key is pressed.
Cassette deck
Symptom
Sound cannot be produced by pressing
the play key or no operation occurs even
w hen an operation key is pressed.
No operation occurs even w hen an opera-
tion key is pressed.
The DPSS malfunctions.
In dubbing, the tape stops at different
moments in decks A and B.
The cassette holders cannot be opened by
pressing the 0 PUSH OPEN area.
Sound is harsh or high frequencies are not
reproduced.
Sound is distorted.
The AUX sound is distorted.
Noise is noticeable.
Sound vibrates.
1. With some tapes, a squeaky noise is produced w hen the tape is stopped automatically. This is due to the tape protection function, and not
a malfunction.

2. Do not use longer tape than 110 minutes tapes, for the tape is too thin and gets easily tangled.

÷ The frequency of the preset station is not
tunable.
÷ The preset memory has been cleared be-
cause the pow er cord has been unplugged
for a long period.
÷ The pow er plug w as unplugged from the
outlet w hile the pow er sw itch w as ON, or
there w as a pow er failure.
Cause
÷ The M ULTI CONTROL setting mode is acti-
vated.
Cause
÷ The head is dirty.
÷ The tape is w ound too tight due to irregular
w inding.
÷ A nonrecorded tape is played.
÷ The cassette holder is not closed com-
pletely.
÷ The operation key is pressed immediately
after closing the cassette holder.
÷ The operation key is pressed in less than 4
seconds after turning the pow er ON.
÷ A tape is not inserted in the unit.
÷ The tape is w ound too tight due to irregular
w inding.
÷ The tape is fully w ound to one of the reels.
÷ The tape used is not suitable for DPSS, for
example the spaces betw een tunes may be
too short.
÷ This is due to the difference in the tape
length or characteristics of the mechanisms
of tw o cassette decks.
÷ The key is pressed during recording or play-
back.
÷ The microcomputer is malfunctioning due
to external noise.
÷ The head is dirty.
÷ The tape is stretched or shrunk.
÷ The tape being played w as recorded w ith
distorted sound.
÷ A tape recorded using the equalizer or SRS
3D level effect is played using the equalizer
effect again.
÷ The AUX INPUT LEVEL is set too high.
÷ The tape head is magnetized.
÷ External noise is induced.
÷ A tape recorded w ith Dolby NR ON is played
w ith Dolby NR OFF.
÷ The capstans or pinch rollers are dirty.
÷ The tape is w ound irregularly.
÷ Preset stations w ith tunable frequencies.
÷ Preset stations again.
÷ This is not malfunction. Press the M ODE/
DEM O key to cancel the demontration.
Remedy
÷ Cancel the M ULTI CONTROL setting mode.
Remedy
÷ Clean the head referring to " M aintenance" .
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Play a recorded tape.
÷ Close the holder completely.
÷ Press operations keys in more than a few
seconds after closing the holder.
÷ Press operation keys after w aiting for more
than 4 seconds.
÷ Insert a tape.
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Change the tape transport direction or re-
verse the tape insertion orientation.
÷ Refer to " Searching for the desired music
program (DPSS)" .
÷ Small time difference does not mean a
malfunction.
÷ Press in stop mode.
÷ Reset the microcomputer.
÷ Clean the head referring to " M aintenance" .
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Try another tape.
÷ Sw itch the equalizer or SRS 3D level effect.
÷ Decrease the AUX INPUT LEVEL.
÷ Demagnetize the head referring to " M ain-
tenance" .
÷ Install the system at a distance from other
electric appliances and TV.
÷ Set the Dolby NR to on.
÷ Clean the head referring to " M aintenance" .
÷ Wind the tape again by fast forw arding,
rew inding or playing from an end to the
other.
