Preparation
This section describes all necessary preparations to be carried out before operating this
equipment, including checklists and observations.
3.1

Initial preparation

Before any retrieval operations are initiated, key points need to be checked and verified.
These key points typically include, but are not limited to:
Verifying the site where the work will take place. This is to ensure that the site is
suitable for the intended work. For example, this includes potential hazards,
scaffolding, and escape routes.
Verifying pipe pressure, media, and temperatures to fully understand what the
conditions are and what the retrieval tool operator will be exposed to during the work.
Performing a safe job analysis or a similar procedure together with the site's
responsible resource.
Filing an approved work permit before any work is started.
Inspecting the retriever, service valve, pumps, and tools to verify that all parts are in
perfect condition (refer to
Prior to performing any retrieval operations:
Verifying condition and certification of any applicable lifting equipment.
Ensuring that all responsible parties adhere to the relevant Material Safety Data Sheets
for the pipeline media.
WARNING
When bleeding the contents of the mechanical retrieval tool, a severe shock can result if
you do not use an earth strap. Ensure that an appropriate container with an earth strap
is used to remove the risk of static discharge.
NOTICE
Emerson strongly recommends that operators of the Roxar Mechanical Retrievable Tool
follow their company-required safe job analysis procedures before any operational work
starts.

Performing a routine inspection
1. Notify the control room.
2. Advise that these process changes could affect system pressure.
3. Surges to adjust system pressure, such as the opening and closing of both valves
and chokes, must be delayed until retrieval operations are complete.
