MANUAL STARTER

CHECKING THE MANUAL STARTER

1. Check:
Start-in-gear protection lever

Cracks/wear/damage
2. Check:
Drive pawl

Cracks/wear/damage
Drive spring

Damage
3. Check:
Sheave drum

Cracks/wear/damage
4. Check:
Return springs

Damage
5. Check:
Starter wire

Frayed/wear/damage
NOTE:
When replacing the starter wire, cut it to

the specified length and then burn its end
so it will not unravel.
Apply water resistant grease onto the

new starter wire.
Starter wire length:
1,500 mm (59.1 in)

ASSEMBLING THE MANUAL STARTER

1. Install:
Starter spring 1

WARNING
When installing the starter spring onto the
starter case, use care so that the starter
spring does not pop out. To help the spring
stay compressed, wind it from the outside,
one turn each time.
