12. From the Service Menu, calibrate the TRC to the directional antenna (see paragraph 3.3.2 and 4.4.3).
13. Cycle power to the SKY899 and verify the standby screen appears after approximately 30 seconds.
Press OPR soft-key (4) and verify the MSG label does not appear on the display after 10 seconds.
If MSG label is present press MSG soft-key (1) for degraded operation
message and refer to Chapter 4 troubleshooting to isolate the problem
before proceeding.
14. Return to the Service Menu (paragraph 4.4) and select Information.
15. From the Information menu, select Data Monitor. The Data Monitors menu will appear.
16. Select each of the data monitors and verify the sensor information is correct (see paragraph 4.4.2.3):
a. Change the status of the extended audio switch, landing gear, squat switch, altitude, and heading
sensors. Verify data monitors show the correct input changes (i.e., sensing of these signals).
b. If the information is not correct, the sensor has failed to communicate with the TRC. Check
operation of the sensor and connections between the TRC and sensor.
c. Select exit until you return to the Service Menu.
17. Do SKY899 self test (paragraph 3.4).
18. From the Service Menu, select Ground Test (see paragraph 4.4.4).
19. From Ground Test menu, select Perform Ground Test.
20. Verify operation of range function. Soft-key (3) is labeled to indicate the current range. Press soft-key
(3) to toggle the display range between 2, 6 and 15 nm.
21. Select the 6 nautical mile range.
22. Verify that the system toggles through the altitude display modes. Soft-key (2) is labeled to indicate
the current mode. Press Soft-key (2) to toggle between normal (NRM), below (BLW), above (ABV),
and unrestricted (UNR).
23. Select the NRM (normal) mode.
22. At the IFR-6000, press the RUN TEST softkey to start test.
23. Verify TCAS STATUS displays ACQUIRING initially, then displays TRACKING. When tracking is
annunciated, and intruder should be displayed on the SKY899 display.
24. Observe the blue interrogation light and green reply light on IFR-6000. Both lights should be flashing
approximately once per second. If either light is not flashing, communication between the IFR-6000
test set and the SKY899 computer has been interrupted
25. Observe the following indications on the SKY899 display:
a. A Proximity Advisory appears at approximately 6nm, at approximately +2000 feet, and at a
bearing matching the relative bearing between the IFR-6000 antenna and the SKY899 directional
antenna (± 30 degree). The intruder should track inward, and descend toward the aircraft position.
b. The Proximity Advisory changes to a Traffic Advisory at 2.0 ± 1.0 miles and continues to track
inward toward the aircraft position.
c. The Traffic Advisory reaches 0.00 nm, stops, changes to a Proximity Advisory, then tracks
outward in a reverse direction.
26. Press the STOP TEST softkey to end test.
27. This completes the post installation checkout procedure.
