5.1.2.1 Determining the installation location
Kaba wireless gateway 90 40
Careful installation is essential in order to ensure the smooth functioning of the
device. Therefore, the following installation instructions must be strictly adhered to.
The wireless gateway is designed for wall mounting. Alternatively, the device can
simply stand on its rubber feet.
When mounting the device on the wall, ensure that there is sufficient space for
the network and power cables on top of the device.
The device should only be installed in a tamper-proof, indoor location.
The device should not be installed in metal cabinets or environments which im-
pair the transmission power.
Electromagnetic fields
Do not install the device in the vicinity of strong electromagnetic fields caused, for
example, by switched-mode power supplies, electric power lines, phase control etc.
Before mounting of the wireless gateway, ensure that the wireless components can
be reached via radio.
Range measurement
This function provides the basis for deciding whether
the device can be mounted in this location
the wireless network needs to be extended using wireless extenders.
Activating range measurement mode:
1. Press button (3) on the wireless gateway. [} 4.1]
ð The device signals whether the range measurement started successfully.

2. Hold the wireless test medium up to the wireless component.
ð The wireless component will indicate the reception quality by flashing.
Deactivating range measurement mode:
1. Press button (3) on the wireless gateway. [} 4.1]
2. Hold the wireless test medium up to the wireless component.
ð Range measurement mode is finished.
After a timeout, the wireless gateway and wireless components automatically exit
range measurement mode.
Range measurement mode will not be available if (a) one or more wireless compon-
ents are already connected to the secured wireless network of the wireless gateway
or (b) a user is logged in to the service interface of the wireless gateway.
