    General - Page 3 Introduction General This manual covers the installation and maintenance of an INDeX 30 system with INDeX Level 9.1/9.2 software. It is intended for use by installers and maintainers who have successfully completed the appropriate INDeX training courses.

    Installing a New System Wall Mounting - Page 11 Wall Mounting This section covers the wall-mounting of an INDeX 30 cabinet. Ensure the section of wall chosen is solid, vibration free and flat.     However, before handing over the system, some basic Initial Programming must be performed and the following paragraphs provide the detail. Programming Tools The INDeX 30 supports programming through either serial ports or a 10/100 Base-T ethernet port connection. Serial Connections Through its serial ports, the INDeX 30 supports programming via serial cable connections.

    Basic System Programming Ethernet Port Connections The INDeX 30 has a 10/100 Base-T ethernet port. This can be used to connect the INDeX 30 to a LAN or directly to a PC network card for programming access. – Telnet : This program can be used to access the INDeX 30 for system programming.

    Logging On - Page 21 Logging On You can log on to the INDeX 30 system using either Kermit (see page 18) or communication software such as HyperTerminal. When performing Uploads and Downloads (see pages 36 and 38) Kermit must be used.

    1. Connect the serial cable between your PC Port 1 and Port 1 (RH port viewed from the front) of the INDeX 30. Only Avaya supplied serial cables should be used otherwise damage to the INDeX or connected equipment may occur.

    The following steps only need to be performed once, after logging on for the first time (see page 20). The INDeX 30 defaults to a basic database of devices. However, if changes are required, e.g. country file database, configure for LD or MF, numbering plan, etc, then the following procedures must be followed.

    Basic System Programming Configuring Basic Rate Interfaces The INDeX 30 system defaults the first circuit to a T-interface (network) and any remaining circuits to S-interfaces (user). Each B-channel (two per circuit) is allocated an appropriate device address at the same time. The system automatically adds T- Interface circuits to group 90 when allocating trunk numbers.

    Initial Programming - Page 27 Using SNMP The INDeX 30 supports SNMP management access across IP connections. This includes the viewing of cassette information and the sending of fault alarms. The SNMP program used must first have the INDeX .mib file installed. This file is available from the INDeX web site.

    Connecting & Checking Two-Wire Terminals All two-wire devices should be tested according to the manufacturer's instructions before connection to the INDeX 30 system. After checking that the device's LD/MF settings match the socket's (Terminal > Analogue control data), connect the two- wire device and make a test call.

    – The INDeX 30 is designed for quick maintenance by the replacement of the complete system, optional IVM Lite daughter board or the Battery Back-up Kit. – There are no site repairable parts in the INDeX 30 system and repair must never be attempted. Failure to comply invalidates any equipment warranties.

    You can upload suitable databases from the programming PC to the system. You must ensure the database being uploaded comes from an INDeX system with the same or lower level of software. In all cases check with Avaya for details about database compatibility.

    Page 40 - Database Upload Maintenance Country File Database When used outside of the UK, the INDeX 30 requires that the appropriate country database file is uploaded. Use the following procedure to upload the required database file. The INDeX country file is made up from selected sections of the normal system database.

    CSV Directory Upload - Page 43 CSV Directory Upload You can upload CSV (Comma Separated Variable) files to the INDeX 30 to create or amend user and system speed dial numbers. The sections below detail CSV files for user directory numbers and for system speed dial numbers. Whilst the two types of file can be combined, for the sake of simplicity we do not recommend this.
