Roof curb Installation

Installation Procedure:

Installation
Do not place unit in a location where service personnel can not safely service the
equipment. Failure to maintain proper and safe working conditions could result
in death or serious injury.
Note: When selecting a location for these Make-Up Air Units, both the size of the
unit and the heating requirements of the building must be considered.
If the building is new, the curb may be assembled at any convenient location and
installed as soon as the roof support members are in place. The curb must be
mounted on the roof deck and support provided directly below the flanges of the
roof curb for further support and to minimize vibration.
Use extreme caution in handling the curb. Ensure there are no obstructions to
ducting and that proper planning has been exercised in connection of piping and/
or electrical services.
The curb assembly may be bolted or welded to either trusses or roof decking;
however, connection to roof trusses is recommended. The curb is designed to
carry the weight of the unit. Additional support is required for certain
applications.
If the rooftop heating unit is going to be installed on an existing building, the
curb shipping container should be hoisted to the roof, as the curb can be
assembled more conveniently at that location.
Squaring and leveling of the curb is critical. Shims for leveling must be applied to
the curb. Application of shims to the unit will tend to destroy the sealing effect
after installation. Ensure sealing tape is in place before unit is set. Gaps where
two pieces of sealing tape meet should not be allowed. A bubble level must be
used in the leveling process. Measure across the diagonals to ensure squareness
of the curb. Allowable tolerance is 1/4" difference between diagonal
measurements. Verify approval prints before setting the unit.
1.
Provide a suitable opening, or two openings, in the roof for the supply and/or
return air duct. The supply duct and return duct always fasten to the unit.
2. Start with the end rail at the return air opening end of the curb assembly. Set
the end rail in-position. Place the right side rail adjacent to the end rail. Fasten
the rails together using the hardware provided. Do not tighten the bolts until
the curb has been squared.
3. Attach the supply side end rail to the right side rail, using the hardware
provided. Place the return duct support rail in the correct position.
4. Position the left side rail and fasten with the hardware provided at either end
of the hardware provided for the return air duct support rail.
5. Square the roof curb, then completely tighten all bolts. To complete the
installation, attach the self-adhering gasket to the curb.
