The speed is set automatically through Auto- Negotiation or you can set the speed manually via the DIP switches located on the back of the unit.

    Maximum Distance The twisted pair port on the AT-GS2002 Series converters have a maximum operating distance of 100 meters (328 feet). Type of Cabling For 10 Mbps, the port requires Category 3 or better 100 ohm shielded or unshielded twisted pair cabling.

    Chapter 1: Overview MODE Push Button The MODE push button is used to toggle between the three operation modes: Link Test (LT), MissingLink (ML), and Smart MissingLink (SML). This button is located on the front panel. The button cycles through these three modes with each push.

    AT-GS2002 Series Installation Guide DIP Switches The DIP switches are used to manually configure the operating characteristics of the RJ-45 twisted-pair port (Port 2), such as port speed, duplex mode, and Auto-Negotation. The RJ-45 twisted-pair port is 10/100/1000Base capable. In forced mode, the end-user can configure only for operation on 10 or 100 Mbps speed.

    Chapter 1: Overview Network Topologies Standalone Topology A standalone topology uses only one bridging converter between the end- nodes. Figure 8 illustrates a standalone topology that uses two AT-GS2002/SP bridging converters to interconnect three remote campuses. Campus 1 has an AT-9424T/SP switch which provides a connection of up to 15 kilometers (9.3 miles), are connected to two AT-GS2002/SP bridging converters via their 1000Base SFP ports.

In this topology, the bridging converter not only extend the distance of your network but also convert the fiber optic cable from twisted pair to fiber optic and back again.

    Chapter 2: Installing the Bridging Converter Planning the Installation Be sure to observe the following guidelines when planning the installation of your bridging converter. The end-node connected to the 1000Base-SX port must be compatible with the SFP transceiver. The 10/100/1000Base-T twisted pair port may be set to match the speed and mode of the connected device or allowed to Auto- Negotiate.
