17 Inspection and Maintenance
► Position the unit so that you are facing the underside of
the blade mount.
► Place the top blade (1) directly on the blade mount.
► Insert the screws (2) and tighten them down firmly by
turning them clockwise.
► Place the bottom blade (3) directly on top of the blade
mount.
► Insert the screws (4) and tighten them down firmly by
turning them clockwise.
► Place the rider plate (5) on top of the blades.
► Secure the screw (6) by turning it counterclockwise.

17.5 Repositioning the Blades

► Shut off the KombiEngine or switch off the KombiMotor
and remove the connecting cord
► Remove the blades.
► Reposition and mount the cutting blades at a 120° offset.
► If the blades have already been repositioned twice:
Replace the blades.

17.6 Sharpening the Blades

WARNING
Never use dull or damaged blades. Working with dull blades
leads to increased physical strain, increased vibration load,
unsatisfactory cutting results and increased wear, which can
result in loss of control and injury to the operator or
bystanders. A damaged cutting attachment may vibrate,

crack or break, which may result in serious or fatal injury or
property damage. Make sure the cutting attachment is sharp
and in good condition before starting work.
WARNING
STIHL recommends having your blades sharpened by an
authorized STIHL servicing dealer to reduce the risk of
severe or fatal injury.
To sharpen the blades:
► Shut off the KombiEngine or switch off the KombiMotor
and remove the connecting cord.
► Remove the blades.

► Use a flat file to sharpen dull blades (1). In case of more
serious wear or nicks, resharpen with a grinder or have it
sharpened by an authorized STIHL servicing dealer.
► Sharpen frequently and take away as little metal as
necessary to create a sharp edge (2). Two or three
strokes of the file are usually enough.
► Resharpen the teeth uniformly. Take care not to alter the
contour of the blade body. Maintain the specified
sharpening angle, @ 18.2.
► Mount the blades, @ 17.4.2.
