7 Maintenance, Repair and Storage

DANGER
■ To reduce risk of electrocution:
– Never operate this power tool in the
vicinity of any wires or cables that may
be carrying electric current.
– Do not rely on the power tool's insulation
against electric shock.
7 Maintenance, Repair and Storage
7.1

Warnings and Instructions

WARNING
■ There are no user-authorized repairs for the KombiTool.
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or other personal
injury and property damage:
– Users may carry out only the cleaning and
maintenance operations described in this manual.
– Strictly follow the cleaning and maintenance
instructions in the appropriate sections of this
instruction manual.
– Never attempt to repair a damaged or broken
KombiTool or blades. This may cause broken parts
to come off and result in serious or fatal injuries.
– Wear non-slip, heavy-duty work gloves when
handling the blades.
– STIHL recommends that all repair or replacement
work be performed by authorized STIHL servicing
dealers.
■ To reduce the risk of personal injury and property damage
from unintentional starting:
– Shut off the KombiEngine or switch off the
KombiMotor and remove the connecting cord before
inspecting the power tool or carrying out any

cleaning, maintenance or repair work and before
storing, and any other time the power tool is not in
use.
■ Use of parts that are not authorized or approved by STIHL
may cause serious or fatal injury or property damage.
– STIHL recommends that only identical STIHL
replacement parts be used.
■ To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries from loose or
damaged blades:
– Keep blades sharp.
– Tighten all nuts, bolts and screws after each use.
– Never repair damaged blades by welding,
straightening or modifying the shape. Always
replace damaged blades before use.
■ The gearbox becomes hot during operation. To reduce the
risk of burn injury:
– Allow the gearbox to cool before
inspecting or lubricating and before
changing the blades. Avoid contacting
the gearbox while it is still hot following
operation.
■ Improper storage can result in unauthorized use, damage
to the power tool and other personal injury or property
damage.
– Store the power tool indoors in a dry, secure place
that cannot be accessed by children or other
unauthorized users.
– Attach the transport guard to the blades.

8 Before Starting Work

8.1

Preparing the KombiTool for Operation

Before starting work:
► Mount and adjust the loop handle and barrier bar at the
KombiEngine/KombiMotor, @ 9.1
► Connect the drive tube to the gearbox, @ 9.2.
