5.9 The REP485 Repeater (P/N 10060156)

The REP485 is a repeater that boosts communica-
tion signals over lengthy runs of wire. Place a
repeater after every 31 devices or after 2000' (609.6
m) (whichever is reached first) and at each branch of
a hybrid network. See Page 36, Figure 19. Each
repeater begins a new network segment. You can
wire a maximum of four repeaters in series. Refer to
the sample network configurations using repeaters
(Daisy and Hybrid configuration sampleon Page 17 ,
Figure 9 through Page 18, Figure 10). If the MS/TP
communications wire length is above 4000' (1219 m),
a repeater must be used to extend the signal. The
repeater can also be used to install in different meth-
ods:
• To extend communications beyond the standard
4000' (1219 m) limitation. See Page 30, Figure
16.
• To add parallel branches of ROBERTS GOR-

communications bus wiring. See Page 32, Figure
17.
• To add more than 31 controllers to the network
chain, the repeater counts as the last controller in
the segment and the first controller in the next
segment.
