recommends that you read all the information in these upgrade notes thoroughly
before installing or using any new hardware or software version.

This Upgrade procedure should take approximately two hours, but it is recommended to
schedule a four-hour time slot should difficulties arise. If you are not already running
release 3.20 (or greater) you will need to upgrade to this release before installing the second
set of controllers. This upgrade will add between two and four hours to the procedure.
These upgrade notes describe how to upgrade a MediaStream PS 1000 from a single
controller to a double controller in an existing system.
These upgrade notes are intended for qualified Avid Field Support personnel or Avid
Resellers who know how to install MediaStream Storage Products, have a working
knowledge of the Windows operating systems, and understand the currently supported
configurations.

    Performing the Upgrade The Avid MediaStream Upgrade Notes explain how to perform one or more “Upgrades” to both hardware and software to support dual controller capability on the MediaStream network. Each section contains more than one step. Before beginning the upgrade, check to make sure software release 3.20 is installed. If it is not, download and upgrade your system before beginning this procedure.
  • Page 5 Preparing to Install the Bridge and Switch Controllers Preparing to Install the Bridge and Switch Controllers Before the new bridge controller and switch controller can be installed in the PS 1000, the hardware components in the network must be shut down and powered off. Use the following procedure to shut down and power off the MSS system.

Dual controllers allow the isolation of the dual networks in the MediaStream system and provide redundancy within the network.

Use the following procedure to remove the filler controller and install the bridge controller. Bridge Controller To install the bridge controller: 1. Press your forefinger into the indentation at the lower part of the filler controller in the slot labeled C (see the following figure).
