2. GETTING READV TO SEW
Important safeguards
1. Unplug the mach ine at the socket when changing needles, feet , or needle plates, or when
leav ing the machine unattended. This eliminates the possibility 01 starting the machine
by accidentally pressing the speed controller.
2. Selore removing the bobbin case, unplug the machine at lhe socket.
3. Secause 01 the up and down movemenl 01 lhe needle. you musl work car elully and walch
lhe sewing area when ope raling lhe machine.
4. Do not pull lhe labric while you are sliching as this may dellecl lhe needl e, causing it
to break.
5. Sefore cleaning your rnachlne, it musl be unplugged at lhe socket.
6. Do not attempl lo adjust lhe motor belt. Contact your nearesl Serv lce centre or an aulhorized
SINGER dealer should any adjuslmenl be requ ired .
7. Selore changing light bulb, make sure you have removed plug Irom sockel outlet, Se sure
lo replace lhe face plate which covers the lighl bulb belore operaling lhe machine.
8. This machine is des igned lo use a 15-watt maximum lighl bulb .

Machines lor Great Srilain and some olher countrles having sim ilar wiring standards are
shipped Irom the lactory without a plug for connection to lhe mains. The wires in lhis mains
lead are coloured in accordance with the lollowing code:
Slue : neutral (N) Srown : live (L)
As the colours 01 the wires in the mains lead 01 this appliance may nol correspond with
the coloured markings identilying the terminais in your plug, proceed as lollows:
The wire wh ich is coloured blue musl be connected lo lhe lerminal which is marked wilh
the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is coloured brown musl be connected lo
lhe terminal which is marked with letter L or co loured red. II a 13 Amp. (SS 1363) plug is
used, a 3 Amp . luse must be litted, or il any other type 01 plug is used, a 5 Amp . fuse must
be litted either in the plug or adaptor or at the distribution board.
Neither core is to be connected to the earth terminal 01 a lhree-pin plug .
