GENERAL INFORMATION
The Merit Zen Garden Refractory Liner Kit is to be used as a decorative
addition to the MLDVTCD-35 fireplace. Please read this instruction
sheet in its entirety before installing this refractory liner.
ALL WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS IN THE INSTALLATION AND
OPERATION MANUAL PROVIDED WITH THE APPLIANCE APPLY TO
THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
Refer to the appliance Care And Operations manual (P/N 506017-01) for
detailed instructions.
TURN OFF THE FIREPLACE AND ALLOW IT TO COMPLETELY COOL
BEFORE PROCEEDING.
CAUTION: TURN OF GAS TO THE APPLIANCE AND LOCK OUT ANY
ELECTRICAL SWITCHES.
REMOVING THE GLASS DOOR
WARNING: Handle this glass with extreme care!
Tempered glass is susceptible to damage – do
not scratch or handle roughly while removing or
installing the glass door.
1. To access the glass door securing latches, first open the lower control
compartment door by sliding and pulling the bottom panel forward.

2. Pull the latches forward and down to release them from the door
channel.
3. Pull the bottom of the door out a few inches and grasp it on the right
and left. Gently lift to release the door from its channel above the door.
Pull the door forward.
INSTALLING THE REFRACTORY LINER
Install Zen Garden Refractory Panels (MBLPK-35ZG) -
1. Remove the sub-floor front panel by lifting it up and away from the
sub-floor.
2. Porcelain panels come installed in the appliance. Remove them
by bending the tab, sliding the left and right side panels out first, then
removing the rear panel.
3. Install Zen Garden panels:
• Remove the lintel by removing two screws.
• Insert the rear panel into firebox and position against the rear
wall of the firebox, behind the lip at the back of the sub-floor (see
Figure 1 and Figure 2 ).
• Carefully insert the left side panel into firebox, at a slight angle
away from the sidewall. Position the side panel as far back along the
wall as it will go (until it is against the rear panel) and lower it into
place, while standing it upright and pressing it down over the knife
edge at the rear of the sub-floor. The sub-floor knife edge will cut into
the refractory panel (see Figure 3 ). Repeat the same procedure for
the right side panel (see Figure 4 ).
• Re-install the lintel.
NOTE: Slight aberrations and misalignments at the bottom edge of
the side panels will be hidden from view with the installation of sand
or glass floor treatments.
4. Re-install the sub-floor front panel by inserting its tabs into the
slots on the sub-floor, at the right and left of the opening.
WARNING: If contemporary media are not installed
according to the installation instructions, flame
impingement and improper combustion could occur
and result in soot and/or excessive production
of carbon monoxide (CO), a colorless, odorless,
toxic gas.
