10.0 Troubleshooting

Symptom
Drill press will not start.
Drill press does not
come up to speed.
Drill Press vibrates
excessively.
Noisy operation
Workpiece burns or
smokes.
Drill bit wanders.
Drill bit binds in
workpiece.
Excessive drill bit
runout, or wobble.
Quill returns too slow,
or too fast.
Chuck or arbor does not
stay in place.

Protect the environment.
Dispose all packaging material in an environmental friendly manner.

Possible Cause
Drill press unplugged from wall, or
motor.
Fuse blown, or circuit breaker tripped.
Cord damaged.
Starting capacitor bad.
Spindle guard did not closed
Extension cord too light or too long.
Low current.
Base on uneven surface.
Dry quill.
Incorrect Speed.
Chips not clearing from hole or bit.
Dull drill bit.
Feeding too slowly.
Bit sharpened incorrectly.
Bent drill bit.
Bit, or chuck not installed properly.
Workpiece pinching the bit.
Excessive feed rate.
Chuck jaws not tight.
Bent drill bit.
Arbor not properly installed
Bit, or chuck not properly installed.
Improper spring tension.
Dirt, grease, etc. on arbor, chuck, or
spindle.
Correction *
Check all plug connections.
Replace fuse, or reset circuit breaker.
Replace cord.
Replace starting capacitor.
Re close the guard
Replace with adequate size and length cord.
Contact a qualified electrician.
Locate drill press on even floor.
Lubricate quill.
Change to appropriate speed.
Retract drill bit frequently to remove chips.
Re-sharpen, or replace drill bit.
Increase feed rate.
Re-sharpen bit correctly.
Replace drill bit.
Reinstall the chuck, or bit properly.
Support or clamp workpiece.
Decrease feed rate.
Tighten chuck jaws.
Replace drill bit.
Reinstall the arbor.
Reinstall the bit, or chuck properly.
Adjust spring tension.
Clean all mating surfaces thoroughly with a cleaner-degreaser.
