Foreword The operator is the party which operates the machine and uses it for its intended purpose or causes it to be operated by suitable, trained personnel. Operating personnel The operating personnel (operators) are those entrusted by the operator to operate the machine.
Safety information Safety information Explanation of symbols The following symbols and instructions warn against possible injuries or damage to property or are intended to assist you in your work. DANGER Hazard warning This symbol appears next to instructions relating to safety at work wherever a hazard to life and limb exists if the instructions are not complied with.
Never work without the protective guards in place. Switch off the machine's drive unit before carrying out any adjustments. Use only original POSCH spare parts. Work on electrical equipment must only be carried out by qualified electricians. Never use damaged cables.
It is up to the operating personnel to ensure that work is carried out safely. Proper use The machine - Log splitter 8 - is designed exclusively for splitting logs with a maximum length of 55 cm .
*..The item number of the machine is stamped on its identification plate. Description The machine - Log splitter 8 - is designed exclusively for splitting logs with a maximum length of 55 cm . The splitter is driven hydraulically; the hydraulic system is driven by an electric motor.

General Labels and their meanings Only work alone. Do not carry out any repair, set-up, maintenance or cleaning work unless the drive unit is switched off and the tool is at rest. Wear protective gloves. Wear safety shoes. Wear goggles and ear protection. Caution, moving parts.
General Phase inverter Set-up Ensure the machine is stable before starting it. Set up the machine on a level, firm and clear work surface. The machine must be placed directly on the ground. Do not place wooden boards, flat pieces of metal etc.
Start-up Start-up Check the oil level before start-up [⇨ 19]! Driven by electric motor (type E) 5.1.1 Machines with 230 V motor The machine must only be operated on a 30mA FI protective circuit. Work on electrical equipment must only be carried out by qualified electricians. 1.

Start-up A tight plug connection can rip the CEE plug out of the switch housing. ▪ This can be remedied using standard plugs and a silicone spray. Any such damage to the switch is not covered by the guarantee. The pump will be damaged if the motor rotates in the wrong direction.
Operation Operation At outdoor temperatures below 0°C, let the machine idle for approximately 5 minutes to allow the hydraulic system to reach the correct operating temperature. Splitting Place the log vertically on the pressure plate between the two handles underneath the splitting blade.
Operation Clamping unit Shut-off rod The log length is dictated by recesses in the shut-off rod: ▪ Length 20 cm, 25 cm, 33 cm 1. Retract the guide tube. 2. Turn off the machine. 3. Press the clamping unit and move it to the desired shut-off position. Then allow the clamping unit to engage in the recess in the shut-off rod.
Transport Transport The splitting blade must be retracted before transporting the machine. Make sure the cut-off rod is also fully retracted. The machine may only be transported in the vertical position or leaning backwards. For horizontal transportation, the ventilation screw must be replaced with a G1/2” screw plug. Moving by hand Grip the machine by the transport handles, tilt it towards you and then move it.
Checks Checks Before carrying out checks on the machine it is absolutely essential to switch off the drive unit and, in the case of machines driven by an electric motor, to disconnect the machine from the electricity supply. Screw fittings Tighten all screws and nuts after the first hour of operation.
Never leave the machine running unattended. Use only original POSCH spare parts. Never work without the protective guards in place. Work on electrical equipment must only be carried out by qualified electricians.
Maintenance Ventilation screw Oil sight glass Frame 1. Retract the splitting blade before changing the oil. 2. Remove the two ventilation screws from the frame, tilt the machine over and allow the oil to flow into a collecting vessel. 3. Set the machine upright again and fill with new oil. –...
Additional equipment Additional equipment 10.1 Splitting cross During the splitting process the log is split into four parts. For uniform billets with maximum log diameter of 30-35 cm. Not suitable for knotty or deformed wood. Splitting cross Splitting blade Retaining tip Fitting: 1.
Additional equipment Special cutter with rollers Retaining tip Splitting blade Fitting: 1. Extend the splitting blade approx. 30 cm and switch off the machine. 2. Pull the retaining tip downwards out of the splitting blade. 3. Push the special blade with rollers over the splitting blade. 4.
