20.2 Setting water hardness
1. Press "

the required level is displayed (Level 1 = soft water; Level
4 = very hard water);

The machine is now reprogrammed with the new water hard-
ness setting.
21. WATER SOFTENER FILTER
Certain models are fitted with a water softener filter (C4). If this
is not the case with your model, you are recommended to pur-
chase one from De'Longhi Customer Services.
To use the filter correctly, follow the instructions below.
21.1 Installing the filter

mally. If the coffee machine is left unused with the filter in-

7. Extract the tank (A16) from the appliance and fill with
water.

BOTTOM": Insert the filter in the filter housing (A17) (fig.
60) and press as far as it will go. Press "
10. "INSERT WATER TANK": Close the tank with the lid (A15),
then replace the tank in the machine.
11. "PLACE 0.5L CONTAINER UNDER SPOUTS, PRESS OK TO
WATER
FILL FILTER" (fig. 8): Place the container under the hot
water/steam spout (C6) and press "

The

indicate that the filter has been enabled. You can now use the
coffee machine.
21.2 Replacing the filter
Replace the filter (C4) when "
FILTER, PRESS OK TO START" appears on the display (B1): to re-
place immediately, press "

To replace the filter later, press "
appears on the display to remind you that the filter needs
replacing.
