VI. OPERATION

1. Attaching the needle

WARNING :
To protect against possible personal injury due to abrupt start of the machine, be sure to start the
following work after turning the power off and ascertaining that the motor is at rest.
When polyester filament thread is used, if the indented part of the needle is tilted toward opera-
tor's side, the loop of thread becomes unstable. As a result, hangnail of thread or thread break-
age may occur. For the thread that such phenomenon is likely to occur, it is effective to attach
the needle with its indented part slightly slanting on the rear side.

2. Setting the bobbin into the bobbin case

A needle of SCHMETZ UY180GVS should be used. Select
a proper needle size from among various sizes according
to the count of thread and the type of material used.

1) Turn the handwheel until the needle bar reaches the
highest point of its stroke.

2) Loosen screw ❷ , and hold needle ❶ with its indented

part A facing exactly to the right in direction B.
3) Insert the needle fully into the hole in the needle bar
in the direction of the arrow until the end of hole is
reached.
4) Securely tighten screw ❷ .
5) Check that long groove C of the needle is facing ex-
actly to the left in direction D.
1) Pass the thread through thread slit A, and pull the

thread in direction B. By so doing, the thread will pass
under the tension spring and come out from notch B.
2) Check that the bobbin rotates in the direction of the
arrow mark D when bobbin thread C is pulled.
3) Securely insert the bobbin case into the hook until the
end of the hook is reached in the state that bobbin
thread is pulled out approximately 20 mm from the
bobbin case.
* When the idling amount of the bobbin is excessive at
the time of thread trimming, raise idle-protection spring

❶ in the bobbin case and adjust the idling amount
within the range where the sewing is not affected.

When waste thread or cloth dust infil-
trates in section E (between bobbin case
and bobbin), unexpected sewing trouble
will be caused. Remove waste thread or
cloth dust gathered inside the bobbin pe-
riodically when replacing the bobbin or
the like.
When sewing is performed in the state
that the bobbin case is not securely in-
serted into the hook, unexpected trou-
bles may be caused. When setting the
bobbin case to the hook at the time of re-
placement of bobbin or the like, securely
insert the bobbin case into the hook until
the end of the hook is reached.
