To prepare the structure for your MAAX Vivez Series shower base, you need to build a structure based on the dimensions provided in the chart. If a structure is already built, verify that its dimensions respect those in the chart. Also, verify that the walls are square and the floor is perfectly level. An approximate 6" x 6" opening should be cut around the drain center using dimensions C and D from the chart.
The installation of the MAAX Vivez Series shower base involves several steps. First, remove the clear plastic film from around the drain hole and threshold. Then, apply silicone around the edge of the drain hole and assemble the drain. Install the base by pushing it completely against the back studs and centering it. Verify the base leveling, inserting wood shims as needed. Place cement or wood shims under all legs to support the base. Finally, drill holes in the base flange and secure it to the wall studs with screws, filling holes with silicone before screwing.
The MAAX Vivez Series shower base installation requires specific tools including a 24" level min., pencil, electric drill with 1/8" drill bits, utility knife, 18" square min., safety equipment, screwdriver, and measuring tape.
For the MAAX Vivez Series shower base installation, you will need supplies such as clear silicone sealant, a box of #8x1¾" flathead screws, wood shims, self-leveling cement, cement, and a shower drain (which is required for Distinct shower bases and included with Zone Square bases).
Leveling the floor is critical for a properly aligned installation. Auto leveling cement can be used to level the floor, but be careful not to block the drain hole position.
To secure the MAAX Vivez Series shower base to the wall studs, drill holes in the base flange with a 1/8" drill bit (pre-drilling the flange only, not the studs). Then, secure the base to all wall studs using #8 x 1¾" flat-head screws. The bottom of all holes in the flange must be at least 8mm (3/8") above the base threshold, and holes must be filled with silicone before screwing.
The dimensions for the MAAX Vivez Series shower base structure vary by model. For specific measurements (A, B, C, D), refer to the chart under "STEP 1 Building the structure; drain position". For example, the Distinct 4832 base has dimensions A: 48" - 48 1/4", B: 32", C: 4 1/2", D: 24".
It is recommended that a plumber completes the drain pipe connection for the MAAX Vivez Series shower base.
If you are installing a MAAX Vivez Series shower base with a U tile wall system, DO NOT USE these instructions. Instead, use only the instructions found inside the U tile back wall box.
To level the MAAX Vivez Series shower base, insert wood shims on the floor around the outline of the base on previously marked spots to compensate for leveling. You may also need to place cement or wood shims under all legs. If necessary, use wood shims between the studs and the tiling flange to maintain the centered position of the base.
The MAAX Vivez Series shower base typically includes the Base. For the Distinct base, a drain cover is included. For the Zone Square base, a drain is included.
To install the drain cover for the MAAX Vivez Series Distinct 48 shower base, simply insert the drain cover (3) as shown.
