Chapter 5. Connecting the Adapter to an Ethernet Network

This chapter contains instructions for connecting your adapter's network cables and
information on understanding its status lights. Refer to your local procedures for
information about connecting the 10/100 Mbps Ethernet PCI Adapter II to your Ethernet
network.
Note: Only one type of network can be attached to the adapter card at a time.

Connecting the Network Cables and Adapter

Make sure you have the hardware listed in "Verifying Your Hardware Requirements" on
page 3 before you begin connecting the adapter.
To connect the adapter to an unshielded twisted-pair network, do the following:
1. Insert the male RJ-45 jack at one end of the unshielded twisted-pair wire segment
into the female RJ-45 connector (see the following figure).
2. Insert the male RJ-45 jack at the other end of the unshielded twisted-pair wire
segment into the network concentrator.
