radio set. Increasingly more of us are listening to stations online and
that includes through devices such as Google Home, which pick
up online radio stations in much the same way as you would if you
listened to them through your computer's web browser or through
an app on your smartphone.

Home or away

Of course, you can listen through your Google Home device itself
or you can use Google Home to 'cast' to another Chromecast-
enabled speaker. This could be another Google Home device, such
as a Google Home Mini or it could be a third-party speaker such as
the excellent JBL Link 10. It could be an old hi-fi with a Chromecast
audio device or it could be a TV with a Chromecast Ultra (or the
basic Chromecast, for that matter). There are many options.
If you want to listen to listen to the radio you can say "OK
Google, play BBC Radio 1". The Google Assistant is quite clever
and will understand you if you say "OK Google, play Kiss" or "OK
Google, play Magic" – it will recognise the name of stations that
don't have the word 'radio' or 'FM' in the title. You can even say
an FM frequency, too: "Hey Google, play 98.5" for example. If you
want to listen to a station on another device on your network say
"Hey Google, play Heart radio on my living room speaker" using
the name you've chosen for your other device (replace the words
'living room speaker' in that command, as that's what ours is called).
Cleverly, you're also able to ask the Google Assistant to play local
radio but in another location. So say we're talking about Heart, you
can say "OK Google, play Heart radio in Bristol" for example. You're
also able to say frequencies for another location as well, so "OK
Google, play 98.5 in London" for example.

Spoken commands

Google Home will also respond to standard pause or resume
commands as well – handy if the phone rings while you're listening
to a radio play, sports match or interview, for example – while
you can also ask Google Home to identify the radio station that's
currently playing if you don't know – "Hey Google, what's playing?"
Naturally you can also adjust the volume while the radio is on, too,
with commands such as "Hey Google, set volume to 5" or "Hey
Google, set volume to 40 per cent". Take complete control of your
radio listening with Google Home!
