8. If required, increase the size of the virtual
memory by typing in the amount of
virtual memory you require in New Size,
according to the following chart.

8 MB
9 MB
10 MB
11 MB

13 MB or more
If the New Size shown in the Virtual
Memory dialog box is less than the
amount you need, you will need to correct
the situation before proceeding by freeing
up additional hard disk space on your com-
puter.
9. Click OK to save your changes. You must
click Restart Windows to implement
these changes.
10. Click Yes to implement the changes,
otherwise, click No.
Note:
You cannot allocate more virtual memory than Recommended Size
as displayed in the New Settings window.
If Windows won't let you allocate the required amount of disk space, check to make sure
that you have enough room on your hard disk drive. If you have enough free disk space
and Windows won't let you create large enough permanent virtual memory, you may
need to run a disk defragmentation utility, such as MS-DOS 6.0's Defrag Utility, to clean
up your hard disk drive before changing your virtual memory to permanent. In the
meantime, you can use temporary virtual memory instead of permanent.
Note:
If you are using a disk compression utility such as Microsoft's
Doublespace or Stac Electronics' Stacker (versions below 4.0),
permanent virtual memory must be located on the uncompressed
drive (typically the D drive).
Note:
If you need more information on Windows' virtual memory, refer to the
Microsoft Windows 3.1 Users Guide.
