8.1.2.Airmassdetermination
OntheUSandEuropeversions,theintakeairmassflowisnotmeasuredbyahot-filmairmassmeter
butcalculatedbytheDME.Forthiscalculation,anexperience-basedfillingcalculation(fillingmodel)is
programmedintheDME.Thefollowingsignalsareappliedtothiscalculation.
Signals:
•
VANOSsetting(loadsensing)
•
Throttlevalveposition(throttling)
•
Intakeairtemperature(airdensitycorrection)
•
Enginetemperature(airdensitycorrection)
•
Enginespeed(cylindercharging)
•
Intakemanifolddifferentialpressure(throttlingcorrection)
•
Ambientpressure(airdensitybasedonaltitudecorrection).
Theairmasscalculatedinthiswayisadjustedandcorrectedifnecessaryinlinewiththeoxygen
sensorsignals(air/fuelratio)andtheinjectionperiod(fuelquantity).Shouldtheoxygensensorsfail,a
faultmemoryentryismadeintheDME(airmassplausibility).Adjustmenttothecalculatedairmass
doesnotapplyinthiscase.
ThemonitoringofthetankventilationsystemforleaksthatislegallyrequiredontheUSisperformed
bytheventurinozzlepressuresensorontheS58engine.Therefore,ithasbeenpossibletodispense
withthehotfilmairmassmeter.
