availableon the printerat any givenmoment.
Selectingfonts
Most popular software packages, particularlyword processors, let you
choosefontsfromwithintheprogram.Theysendtheappropriate commands
to the printerand you don'tneed to understandhow they do it. A4uhiilfate
uscs pitchto identifydifferentfonts,for example,while WordPerfect
uses
printformats.The pointis, youmaynotevenhaveto worryaboutselecting
which fontto use.
But not all p ackages
do thejob for you.If you arc in this situation,youcan
selectany fontattnbutcmentionedabove,eitherfromthe frontpanelor by
sendingan Escapesequencecommandin one of the emulationmodes.
If youuscthe front panel in program mode,you'llscctheseattnbutcsunder
the Font Attnbutcslevel of the EMULATIONAttributes menu.Just
press the
NEXT
buttonto get to the font attnbutc you want to set, press
ENTER
to getto itspossiblevalues,press
NEXT
to scanthroughthem,and
finallypress
ENTER
to slap in the value you want.
The proceduresfor selectinga fontfrom a computerprogramis a bit more
complicated,and dependson whichemulationmodeyou are using.These
font selectionmethodsare detailedin the next four chapters.
Hints:Desktoppublishingandpage design
Desktoppublishingsystcmshelp you automateyour specificationsfor
margins,coverdesign,typefaces,font sizes,placementof graphicsand
regular features. You build the specificationsyou want in tempfates,
standardpagedesignsyoulater simplycall up on yourscreenand fill in
with text.
Somcdcsktoppublishing systems,suchasAldus'sPageMaker, a repage-
oncnted: you put each page togetherindividually. T hese are great for
