The NK823x units can support the SNMP protocol (Simple Network Management
Protocol) to enable remote stations to monitor the units for conditions that may re-
quire administrative attention.
Using the SNMPv1 (RFC 1155-1157) on the UDP port 161, the NK823x provides
two sets of internal information variables using the community IDs listed here be-
low that enable the access to the MIB (Management Information Base) name-
space.
-
Public, providing a basic set of information
-
Engineer, providing the access to the complete set of information
Note that the event-based notifications (trap) are not supported.
There are two maintenance and diagnostic applications available for NK8000 net-
works. One application (or tool), the NW8204 tool, is contained in the product in-
stallation CD. The other, the NK8000 Web Server tool, is available via Internet Ex-
plorer.
The Web Server tool is available for NS8210 only. Use NW8204 (and/or Com-
poser-based monitoring tools) for NS8011 BACnet/IP driver.
Both tools have the same NW8204 functionalities.
Note: There are slight differences in the NW8204 graphic user interface (installed
vs. Web).
In addition to the NW8204 tool, the NK8000 Web Server tool provides NS8210 and
NK82xx diagnostic utilities. To the end user these tools appear to function in the
same way, however there are important differences (see details below and Fig.
38):
 NW8204 is a password-protected Windows application that runs on a central
server, and can be installed on a networked PC. It offers maximum security,
whenever this may be matter of concern.
 Web services, available for the central NS8210 driver, can offer a web browser
access, available anywhere on the network with no need of installing any soft-
ware. This approach, which requires the network connection, is faster and eas-
ier. Although the access to the web application requires a password, the secu-
rity is inferior to the one assured by the NW8204 application (see IIS security is-
sues on page 62).
