Description
Secure Data Overwrite (SDO) is optional. DS8870 frames
are required to be returned to IBM, including the
processors and management console. If you require that
data is securely removed from the management console
and processor disk drives, you can request the IBM service
representative perform an SDO. This is an extra service.
The SDO must be run after you have migrated data and
removed the logical configuration and encryption group,
and before you begin the conversion. The SDO includes an
overwrite on the management console, processor disk
drives, and data drives. This process can take significant
time to complete. You need to plan accordingly.
If the DS8870 uses data encryption and Security Key
Lifecycle Manager servers and you intend to activate
encryption on the DS8880, ensure that the infrastructure is
in place for the DS8880 system. Encryption is optional for
conversion.
Order the following cables for the new DS8880 only if your
existing DS8870 infrastructure cannot be used:
v Fibre Channel host cables from the host to DS8880 host
adapters.
v An Ethernet LAN signal cable. This cable is required to
connect the management console to your LAN. If the
DS8870 configuration has an external secondary
management console, then the new DS8880 will have a
secondary management console installed inside the base
frame. You might need to plan to move the support
infrastructure.
Note: If you want the IBM service representative to route
the cables, that activity must be coded or billed separately
from the DS8880 installation work.
DS8880 requires a new set of power cords and new set of
perforated floor tiles. Depending on your configuration, it
might also require a different wall breaker. For more
information, see "Planning for power requirements" on
page 155.
IBM does not recommend the use of GFCI, ELCB, or RCCB
for mainline power. However, some sites require the use of
GFI.
The DS8880 earthquake resistance kit requires that you
install a new set of hold-down hardware in the concrete
floor. The existing holes and hardware that is used for
DS8870 cannot be reused.
