Troubleshooting
continued
d Finally if your FDX 840 is connecting
through a router with a firewall enabled,
check with the Broadband Voice
Helpdesk (0800 028 3228) that the
correct ports have been opened up on
the firewall. You could try disabling the
firewall temporarily to prove whether this
is the problem. Note some routers will
need re-booting if a firewall is disabled.
If in doubt consult the router's user
guide. Note that if you reboot any
device, then you may have to repeat
the correct reboot sequence in order
to get all the IP DHCP processes
synchronized correctly.

Configuring your FDX 840 to direct
certain calls over the PSTN - ACR
Configuration (Automatic Call Re-routing)
If you decide to connect the LINE port
of your FDX 840 to an existing telephone
line socket then you may direct certain
calls over the PSTN rather than over the
Broadband Voice VoIP line. 999 / 112
emergency services is a good example
of a call type that should route over PSTN
rather than over the internet.
However if you decide that you want
Broadband Voice to be completely
independent of your normal telephone
service, (i.e you do not connect the LINE
port to the PSTN), then this ACR feature
should not be used.
Therefore only if you have the LINE
socket connected to PSTN, take the
following steps:
a click on "Advanced Settings" within
the Wizard.
b on the left hand side, under the
Advanced Settings menu, click
on ConfigIP.
c Under ConfigIP click on ACR
Configuration. You will be presented
with 30 maximum entries.
d Press "edit" of entry 1 and type 999 in
under number. Leave "del digit"
parameter as zero. Press save and then
press exit. There is no need to restart the
unit. Settings will be active immediately.
e Repeat the exercise under entry 2 using
"112" instead of 999.
You can also use the ACR Configuration
to do the following:
Activate automatic call re-routing to
1
the PSTN line by pressing a preceding
digit or PIN.
Activate call routeing over the PSTN for
2
certain telephone numbers or telephone
number ranges. For example Broadband
Voice does not support calls to 09
premium rate numbers and other number
ranges such as personalised numbers
(070). You can add these ranges into the
ACR list in order to make calls to these
numbers from your Broadband Voice
handset but over the PSTN.
If you wanted to route calls over the PSTN
on demand, without repeatedly flicking
the PSTN/VoIP switch at the rear of the
unit, you could (for example) implement
the dialling of a preceding "9" digit to make
the choice.
Press "edit" of the required entry within
ACR Configuration, enter 9 in the number
and then enter 1 in the del digit column.
Press save and then exit. This basically tells
the FDX 840 to recognize you pressing a 9,
it then routes the call over PSTN but deletes
the 9 from the following number that you
dial. Similarly if you wanted to activate
PSTN routeing using a 4 digit PIN like
1234, then you enter 1234 under the
number entry and enter the number 4 in
the del digit entry. (del digit stands for
delete digits).
If you want to make sure a certain number
type always routes over PSTN, e.g. all 09
numbers then you enter under "number"
the following: 09T. The T stands for "any
following number or string of numbers"
and it needs to be a capital T. You could
do the same if you wanted all international
calls to be charged to your PSTN line...
i.e. enter 00T.
You can also add specific phone numbers
to the ACR list.
You will always know that a call is being
routed over the PSTN rather than VoIP
because the PSTN light on the front
panel of the FDX 840 will be illuminated
for PSTN calls.
